Abraham Lincoln – Duel

James 3: 5-6 KJV

In life you encounter countless thoughts and feelings. Sometimes they are the sweet smelling flowers and other times they are the annoying fly that you just try to swat away. Often, when we get those feelings hurt, we go for the jugular. When we do this we often regret it later. You think our country had issues with the Constitution when we started or slavery as she was going through her youth, that was nothing compared to this.

Ronald Reagan’s Death

Goodbyes are tough

Jeremiah 1:8 KJV

This past weekend our grandkids came to visit. Mimi’s (what they call my wife) eyes have a special twinkle and Pop (what they call me) pulls out his best version of the Tickle Monster when they come to visit. They laugh and cheer and everyone has a good time. Then, those dreaded words we really hate to hear from their parents: “It’s time to go.” We see the little heads popping up from the backseat and those tiny arms waving in the air. Yes, goodbyes are hard.

Millard Fillmore: The Illiterate President?

I didn’t know that

Jeremiah 1:8 KJV

Every once in a while the path of our presidential history takes the rough and tumble gravel road. Somehow the trees clear and the path opens to a vision of an unseen pathway. Out steps a creature whose unpolished boots are well worn and his hands are callous. There is dirt under his fingernails and his life is full of trials.

William Who?

Luke 16:24 KJV

It’s actually a remarkable document. It is vaguely simple, but extremely powerful. Its simplicity is often the cause of bitter debates. It is the Constitution of the United States. In Article II, Section 1 it defines the qualifications for President as:

Jimmy Carter: He didn’t forget his campaign workers

Who stayed here?

Revelation 3:20 KJV

Suppose you wanted to run for President, just where would you start? If I were from, let’s say, Virginia, how would I reach out to someone in let’s say, Idaho? In today’s internet world it might be a little easier, but if you are in the pre-internet days it would probably have been a lot harder. I can see it now, “Mom, there is some weirdo standing at the door who says he wants to be the next President and he wants to talk to you.”

Genesis 1:1 KJV

Americans have a great advantage over the rest of the world, at least in one respect: we are allowed to dream. What’s more, we can act on those dreams. His father probably had that desire. His father was a common laborer, but with the inheritance from his father (our President’s grandfather) he bought and owned a little general store. One thing about American dreams, though, is they don’t always have a happy ending. That was the case with this little general store in Texas. It failed. So his father had to resort to living in a small rented shack.

John F. Kennedy, Jr.’s Missing Father

“And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.”

Genesis 46:29 KJV

I almost feel cheated and I didn’t really even do anything to deserve it. Like most of the people I’ve talked to, we all seem a little disgusted about our government lately. Forget all the polls and the spin from those polls. I’m not madder at President Obama. I’m not madder at the Republicans. I’m not madder at the Democrats. Quite honestly, I’m equally mad at them all. In the latest government shutdown, I looked at my paycheck and they still took my taxes out. So, basically, I was paying for something I didn’t get.

Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

Luke 7:22 KJV

Imagine a world where someone listened so intently to all your spoken words. What if you were to just say something like: “Blah, blah, blah,” and they looked at you like you had the wisdom of Solomon? What if you had one of those really bad days where everything seemed to go wrong and no one would even give you the time of day and you came across this person who just sat there listening to you as you whined and you just sensed they felt your pain? One of the best I’ve ever known at this was Tucker, a sweet little dog we use to have.

Thomas Jefferson’s Modesty

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 KJV

In the beginning, now that’s a great place to start. To take an idea, a thought, or a concept and mold it into something tangible is really exciting. Genesis 1: 2-5 tells us that God divided darkness and light and called it the first day. Most creations follow this path. They divide those things that can’t be seen, like thoughts and ideas and they bring them into a light, such as an invention, a constitution, or even a website.
