Sometimes elections don’t go the way we want them to. Sometimes election results surprise us. Through it all, we pray and we trust God, because we know that He is always the one in control.

“Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.” I Kings 4:20 KJV
We see our limits and we forget about the invalid mother, who died really young, who still produced a young child who carried her in his heart through the Presidency and even to his death. We forget that our Savior came from a very tainted family tree. The most amazing part about times like these is the people who God places in your path to help you through them. Usually they are people you would have probably just walked right by if you were on the straight path.
“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood….” Revelation 1:5 KJV
As his first term as Governor came to a close, he decided to run for reelection. He was soundly defeated. As the father moved closer to the group, the brothers parted like a divided sea. Strange thing, I sure didn’t feel like a star.
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” Isaiah 6:8 KJV
He suggested that this young Virginian, Thomas Jefferson, be on that committee of five. But who else should be on that committee? It would probably be impossible for the Bible to mention all the characters that made a story happen. We basically know nothing about Alon, except for the fact he will play a very minor role in our story. It was my first summer as a plumber’s helper.
“For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.” Genesis 44:34 KJV
After all the ceremonies, his body guard took him to Union Station in Washington DC where he would board a train to head home. The ex-President was now, literally, just an average American. If I stayed there any longer, I knew I would feel the pain of their hand slipping out of mine. “Take me! Take me! I just can’t bear my father’s pain over the loss of another son. It will kill him and it will be my fault because I didn’t take extra good care of his youngest son,” he would beg.
“He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.”” Proverbs 6:35 KJV
8-27-34-4-19-10. When lotteries have real high jackpots you probably hear many conversations on how different someone’s life will be if they win that prize. Whatever the reason, the great dream he once claimed had become a nightmare. “Once a slave, always a slave,” is what he thought.
“For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.” Jeremiah 31:25 KJV
He held the hand of his older brother and younger sister. What would happen them? He no longer had his family. He was headed into the land of the great and scary unknown. That more than likely translates into a better life for one’s self.
“Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren; And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon….” Matthew 1:2-4 KJV
Once upon a time there was a boy. I would like to close this story by saying that he lived happily ever after: the end. As time is passed from one generation to another, the twist and turns often take us in different directions.
As I was heading down a country road this morning, I came across a farm. Everyone, loudly and proudly, without the words or sheet music, sang the first verse.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears….
It is an issue that plagues a nation. It is immigration. One of the biggest problems with a large immigrant population is that eventually they start thinking that this is their country, too.
