John and Abigail Adams

Johnny Adams

Not too far from Boston, in a town once called Braintree,

John and Susanna Adams had a new baby.

It was 1735, October 30 was the day,

When John Adams, Jr. ,into the world ,made his way.

His daddy, John, Sr., had many jobs that he held down:

A deacon, farmer, shoemaker, a councilman in town.

Young John Adams was compelled to get his education.

Studied Latin, Logic, Math, as he pondered his vocation.

Would he be a farmer or a soldier or a teacher?

Or do just what his daddy said, “You’re gonna be a preacher!”

But Johnny headed off to Harvard to his pop he said,”Naw!”

“I think I’m going to focus on learning about the law.”

He married his love, Abigail, in 1764.

But spent a lot of time away from the lady he adored.

Abigail and John wrote many letters while apart.

The love letters to his better half were truly from the heart.

He moved his fam to Boston where his law practice grew.

That Boston Massacre happened and he knew what he would do.

He risked his reputation for those British dudes ’defense.

Adams was all about “Presumed Innocence”.

That case provided Adams with some fortune and some fame.

But with unrest brewing in Boston, things were not the same.

Moved his wife and kids to Braintree to protect them all from harm.

And from 1774 on they remained on the farm.

Then came the time in the colonies when action was necessary,

That Tea Party in Boston made Adams a revolutionary.

Britain didn’t like this behavior but, sorry, facts are facts.

They punished the colonists with Intolerable Acts.

It was time for America to tell England, “Bye-bye!”

Independence was declared on the second of July.

A declaration was sent telling King George to “ Bite it!”

Adams convinced his “frenemy” Thomas Jefferson to write it.

The Revolutionary War was fought and, Yay! America won!

Adams became the first V.P. to Prez George Washington.

George served two terms as President but then said he was through.

John Adams was elected as President number two.

He served one term as president as history will show.
